Florida driver seriously injured in crash, troopers say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 31-year-old German woman was killed Monday evening in Orange County when an SUV ran off a road and struck her while she was standing at an intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal wreck happened around 6:35 p.m. on Universal Boulevard near Breakview Drive, north of State Road 528.

The FHP said a 37-year-old Fort Lauderdale man was driving a 2025 Mazda CX-50 south on Universal Boulevard when the SUV ran off the road, struck a tree and hit the woman before colliding into multiple traffic signal support posts.

The woman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead, according to an FHP crash report.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries and was taken to ORMC, troopers said.

An investigation is ongoing.
