Woman dies after Dodge Challenger becomes submerged in Lake County pond

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 25-year-old Ocala woman was killed Sunday in a Lake County crash after she lost control of the vehicle she was driving and traveled into a retention pond, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash happened at County Road 452 near Martin Drive.

According to an FHP crash report, a Dodge Challenger was traveling north on County Road 452, approaching Martin Drive when, for an unknown reason, it ran off of the road and struck a pole and a chain-link fence.

The Challenger continued traveling in a northeasterly direction before it drove into a retention pond on the shoulder of County Road 452, causing the vehicle to become completely submerged, according to the FHP.

Troopers said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the crash report, the exact time of the crash remains under investigation.
