WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A 44-year-old Altamonte Springs man walking across a road in West Palm Beach was struck and killed by a vehicle that took off late Friday, according to police.

A 911 caller around 11 p.m. Friday reported seeing an unconscious man lying in the roadway in the 2700 block of 45th Street, just west of Interstate 95, the West Palm Beach Police Department said in a news release.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and was identified as Drew Robert Winters, the release states.

Investigators determined Winters was crossing 45th Street, walking north to south, when he was struck by a silver car that was driven away after the crash. Police said the impact propelled Winters into the inside westbound travel lane.

Two westbound lanes were closed for around four hours as investigators worked the scene, according to the release. The initial investigation found that the hit-and-run car would be a silver sedan with front-end damage and windshield damage, the release states.

Anyone with information about the crash, or who sees a car matching the description given, is urged to call Detective Dan Dillard at 561-822-1629, or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 1-800-458-8477 to remain anonymous. Tips to Crime Stoppers that lead to an arrest can result in a cash reward of up to $3,000, police said.
