SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A man was killed and a 16-year-old girl was among two others injured by a fiery crash Friday evening in Sumter County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. at State Road 44′s intersection with County Road 475, troopers said.

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, an unknown vehicle operated by an unknown driver was traveling south on County Road 475 when the driver failed to yield at the intersection.

In an update Saturday afternoon, troopers said the unknown vehicle had since been described as a late model dark colored SUV, possibly dark brown or dark blue in color.

A 32-year-old Inverness man driving a Nissan Altima westbound on S.R. 44 had to swerve to the left in order to avoid a collision with the unknown vehicle, causing the Nissan to strike a Chevy pickup truck which was traveling eastbound on S.R. 44, the report states.
