LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A man died and another was treated for injuries after their involvement in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday near Leesburg, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 2:26 a.m. at County Road 48′s intersection with County Road 33, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, a sedan was traveling eastbound on County Road 48 with two occupants — a 26-year-old man driving and a 41-year-old man riding as a passenger, both of Puerto Rico — when the driver failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign.
The sedan then ran off the roadway, became airborne over a ditch, struck a tree and overturned, the report states.
The driver suffered minor injuries in the crash and was hospitalized while the passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to FHP.
Troopers believe the driver was the only occupant who was wearing a seat belt during the crash.
FHP is still investigating.
