BITHLO, Fla. – An 80-year-old Orlando woman kneeling in a parking lot was struck and killed Friday morning in Bithlo by a pickup truck that was backing up, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Cedarhurst Road and N. 6th Street, troopers said.
The FHP said a 2010 Ford F-150 was stopped facing west in a driveway at the Cedarhurst Mobile Home Village while the woman was kneeling in the guest parking lot.
The driver, a 35-year-old Orlando man, began backing out of the driveway and said he did not see the woman, who was struck by the left back tire of the pickup, the FHP said.
The woman was taken to Advent Health East Hospital and was pronounced dead, according to troopers.
It’s not known why the woman was kneeling.
The driver and his passenger, a 28-year-old Sanford man, remained at the scene and were not injured, according to FHP.
A roadblock in the area was later cleared.
