OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A crash involving four vehicles Friday morning in Osceola County killed one of their passengers and sent others to hospitals, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Nova Road, north of Maplehead Road.
According to a preliminary FHP crash report, a 2010 Hyundai Elantra was traveling south on Nova Road while the following three other vehicles traveled north: a 2022 Lexus ES, a 2021 Toyota Corolla and a 2015 Chevy Silverado, in that order.
The driver of the Chevy failed to slow for the Toyota ahead, causing the right front of the Chevy to strike the left rear of the Toyota, the report states.
The Chevy then entered the southbound lane in the direct path of the Hyundai, troopers said. As a result, the right front of the Chevy struck the right front of the Hyundai, causing the Hyundai to be propelled into the northbound lane where its right front struck the front of the Lexus, according to FHP.
A woman riding as a passenger in the Hyundai was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, troopers said, adding there were additional transports to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators were still working at the time of this report to confirm the identities of each occupant involved in the crash.
A roadblock remains in place for both directions of travel on Nova Road as the crash is investigated.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
