ORLANDO, Fla. – With Florida’s recent changes to driver’s license numbers, many residents have asked: Is it legally required for the driver’s license number on your vehicle registration to match your current license?
This is a great question because consistency in vehicle documentation is crucial.
If you haven’t heard, Florida recently announced that driver’s license numbers will change when you renew your license. Previously, your license number remained the same throughout multiple renewals, serving as a unique identifier. Meanwhile, your vehicle registration also displays the owner’s driver’s license numbers, a detail many drivers may not even notice.
So, does this change mean you need to take action?
The short answer is no. As long as both your driver’s license and vehicle registration remain valid, you’re in compliance with the law. When it’s time to renew your vehicle registration, the system will automatically update it with your new license number.
There’s no need to rush to the tax collector’s office to get a new license before your renewal date. Simply continue following your normal renewal schedule, and the transition will take care of itself.
