‘Coming in hot:’ Driver clocked near 100 mph busted at Kennedy Space Center, deputies say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A man was arrested after being clocked driving close to 100 mph before he led deputies on a chase that ended on Kennedy Space Center property, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of State Road 528 and State Road 401 when they observed a vehicle “coming in hot” around 100 mph.

According to a news release, as deputies tried to catch up to the vehicle, the driver – later identified as 25-year-old Taparree Shelton – began maneuvering in and out of traffic before picking up speed.

“Of course we called our own fast little toy, our helicopter STAR, to maintain a visual on the vehicle as other units arrived to assist,” the release read in part.

Deputies said that Shelton then drove onto Kennedy Space Center property, where their officers joined in on the pursuit.

According to the release, officers from Kennedy Space Center were able to deploy stop sticks that eventually brought Shelton’s vehicle to a stop. Shelton then surrendered to law enforcement at the scene.

Deputies said they found 2 grams of cocaine in Shelton’s vehicle on the floorboard near the driver seat.

According to the release, Shelton faces charges of of fleeing and eluding, possession of cocaine, and reckless driving. He was taken to the Brevard County jail on $13,000 bond.
