ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 39-year-old Orlando woman driving a Mercedes-Benz rear-ended a tractor-trailer early Saturday and later died, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 12:19 a.m. at the intersection of Landstreet Road and County Road 527 (S. Orange Avenue) in Orange County, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the woman was driving a 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class westbound on Landstreet Road when she failed to observe the tractor-trailer, which was stopped ahead of her in the inside lane for a steady red traffic signal. The front of the Mercedes-Benz struck the rear of the tractor-trailer as a result, the report states.

The woman and her passenger, a 33-year-old Orlando man who suffered serious injuries in the crash, were taken to the hospital where the woman was later pronounced dead, according to FHP.

Troopers believe neither of the sedan’s occupants were wearing a seat belt during the crash. The 32-year-old Georgia man driving the tractor-trailer was not injured and remained at the scene, the report states.

FHP is still investigating.
