WINTER PARK, Fla. – Ah, Winter Park — a city that once drew me in, but now, every time I hear about it in the news, I know I’m in for something interesting.
Whether it’s their passionate stance against gas-powered leaf blowers or their unique approach to traffic management, there’s never a dull moment.
The latest chapter? A speed bump saga along Orange Avenue.
Originally installed to meet all Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards, this bump was meant to slow drivers down in a 30 mph zone and improve pedestrian safety. Makes sense, right? Well, apparently, not everyone agreed.
Instead of simply adjusting their driving habits, complaints started rolling in, and before you knew it, the city decided to redesign the perfectly legal, properly-constructed speed bump.
So today, we’re heading back out to Orange Avenue to see what this new-and-improved version looks like. Did they smooth it out? Shrink it? Who knows?
At this point, I can’t help but wonder — what if we brought in a couple of Florida state troopers to patrol the area for a month? Would driving habits change? Would people start appreciating the original speed bump, or would we just see an increase in creative excuses at traffic stops? Either way, Winter Park never fails to keep things interesting.
Watch it again at the top of this story.
