Man accused of DUI after passenger falls from golf cart in The Villages, later dies, FHP says

THE VILLAGES, Fla. – A man from The Villages is accused of DUI manslaughter following the death of a woman who fell out of a golf cart that he was operating while impaired, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred around 12:49 a.m. Sunday on San Marino Drive near Santa Clara Circle, troopers said.

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the man was taking the golf cart northbound on San Marino Drive when he swerved to avoid a parked vehicle. During the evasive maneuver, his passenger — a 60-year-old woman from Norridge, Illinois — fell out of the golf cart and suffered serious injuries, the report states.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries, troopers said.

The operator of the golf cart — identified as 58-year-old Richard Allen Keil — was found to be impaired and was later arrested by troopers to face a charge of DUI manslaughter, according to the report.
