Woman dies after 2 vehicles strike her in Marion County, deputies say

Fatal crash happened on US-441, south of SE 39 Place

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 55-year-old woman is dead after two vehicles struck her Thursday morning, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman was wearing dark clothing and walking south on the right lane of U.S. 441 around 5:30 a.m., deputies said in a news release. It was dark at the time and the area had no lighting, according to the sheriff’s office.

Two vehicles were traveling south in the right lane when the first vehicle hit the pedestrian with its front side, causing the woman to fall in the left lane, according to deputies.

The first driver stopped while the driver the second vehicle, not seeing the pedestrian on the road, drove around the first vehicle and struck the woman, hitting her with the vehicle’s undercarriage, the release states.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Marion County Fire Rescue.

No one was charged, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
