Body of 71-year-old man recovered after van crashes, submerges into lake near Celebration

Florida troopers ID victim as Pittsburgh man

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A 71-year-old man’s body was recovered Tuesday afternoon after his van plunged into a lake in the Celebration area, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash happened around 3:35 p.m. on Bloom Street and Front Street.

According to the FHP, a 71-year-old Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, man was driving a 2024 Chrysler Pacifica and backed out of a parking spot. Troopers said he started driving in reverse in a westerly direction before he “turned around to begin reversing in an easterly direction.”

For an unknown reason, the man ran off the road, struck a curb and a fence and the van entered a lake, becoming submerged, the FHP said.

The Orlando Fire Department dive team recovered the man’s body from the vehicle, officials said.

An investigation is ongoing.
