EDGEWATER, Fla. – Wild hogs are destroying some people's yards and the city set traps on Thursday to catch them.
"They just dig down a foot, foot and a half. They're down to my sprinkler systems as a matter of fact," said Ron Ward.
Ward has lived on Vista Palm Drive for six years and never had a wild hog problem until now and can't figure out why.
"There's either some grubs, worms, or there's root systems into the grass that we have that they like," he said.
Ward isn't the only one with some serious damage.
"I tamped down all the stuff that was dug up and a couple days ago, all this happened," said Fred Birzten.
The city of Edgewater said the wild hogs destroyed about a dozen yards on different streets since the end of December.
"Bottom line, it's a nuisance to the people. It's tearing up their lawn. People take a lot of time, money and effort to have a nice lawn," said Gary Conroy, City Council, District 4.
Conroy said the city hired professional hog trappers to set traps in the woods that back up to the neighborhood, along with a trail of corn, hoping that does the trick. Once the hogs are caught, they will be relocated.
"Hopefully, the trappers will catch the darn things because I don't know what I'm going to do," said Birzten.
