Police: Woman knocked unconscious, severely injured during large brawl in Daytona Beach

Authorities seek culprit in attack

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A woman was knocked unconscious during a large brawl in Daytona Beach and now, police say they’re trying to find the man responsible.

A friend of the victim’s said they were leaving the Coyote Ugly Bar near Seabreeze Boulevard and Grandview Avenue around 2:50 a.m. Sept. 12 when they saw a large fight break out and they tried to run away, but they ended up getting caught in the mix, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.

At some point, the 48-year-old victim was struck in the head by a 6-foot tall man with a goatee wearing a light blue T-shirt and light blue jeans, records show. He’s believed to be between 30 and 40 years old.

Police said the culprit ran away after the victim fell to the ground. A friend of the victim chased the man down Grandview Avenue until he was picked up by someone in a white truck with a red interior, possibly a Nissan or Toyota, according to the report.

Daytona Beach Police Department Capt. Jennifer Krosschell said the victim was innocent and had nothing to do with the fight.

“She was here with her wedding party and she was walking down the street to go back to the hotel to finish the evening off and prepare for the wedding the next day and got caught up into a large fight that had started on Seabreeze (Boulevard) and she got hit,” Krosschell said.

Multiple bystanders, including the friend of the injured woman, called 911. Yelling and screaming can be heard in the background.

“There’s a mess out here. I’m not even sure what happened. She’s hurt, she’s got blood coming out,” the friend who called 911 said, later saying, “It’s ugly, there’s an officer here but this is not looking good.”

The victim, who was unconscious when police arrived, was taken to a hospital to receive treatment for a head injury. Police said she was severely injured and remains hospitalized in a coma.

Police said she was in town for her son’s wedding when she was injured.

Surveillance video shows dozens of people were caught up in the altercation but it’s unclear what started the brawl.

Krosschell is hoping to get help from the public to solve the case.

“We need a witness to come forward that maybe has that video or has seen that video on social media that they can share with us, because right now, all we have is a white truck that is fleeing the scene with the suspect in it,” she said.
