“While I am feeling mild effects of the virus, I am resting, upbeat and following the advice of medical professionals,” McFadden wrote. “I will remain quarantined at home until I can fully recover and return to work when it is absolutely safe to do so.”

McFadden made the decision “in the best interest” of city staff and the community to close city hall and the building department to allow for thorough cleaning.

The interim city manager has spent time in both buildings recently, he said.

City staff will be working remotely. To reach staff members while the facilities are closed, community members can call 386-517-2000 for city hall and leave a message. Someone will return your call. To reach the building department, call 386-871-2023.

Both buildings will reopen on Jan. 19.
