ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a deadly crashing Sunday morning involving a van that was carrying 10 people and a puppy when it crashed on Interstate 95 in Volusia County.
Troopers said the 2000 Ford passenger van drifted off the road around 5:30 a.m. near Ormond Beach and overturned in the northbound lanes.
The van had 10 people inside who are residents from another state, according to the FHP.
The roof was ripped open during the impact and the van occupants were ejected, according to investigators.
At least three people were killed in the wreck as of late Sunday morning including a 4-year-old girl, a 19-year-old woman and another person whose age or gender has not been released yet, FHP Lt. Kim Montes said.
Multiple other passengers were taken to three area hospitals. Four passengers were taken to Halifax Medical Center, three were taken to Florida AdventHealth and a 3-year-old was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, according to Montes.
The four individuals at Halifax and the 3-year-old are in stable condition. The three people taken to AdventHealth are in critical condition. As of Monday, two people were listed as critical, according to FHP.
A puppy was also rescued in the wreckage, troopers said.

Crash investigators believe that some of the occupants were lying down in the cargo area. The van seemed to be following traveling with another vehicle that was ahead of them. FHP said the driver showed no signs of impairment and there were no car seats in the vehicle.
Charges are pending, crash investigators said.
The crash is the third deadly wreck investigated by FHP this weekend in the Central Florida area.
An 18-year-old man died Saturday in Brevard in a single-vehicle crash on I-95 and a 63-year-old Marion County man died Saturday in a separate crash near Ocala.
The traffic fatalities come on the same weekend as the funeral for two sisters and their three children -- ages 5, 4 and 5 months old. All five family members were killed in a crash in Orlando earlier this month.
