Deputies identify victim in DeLand deadly shooting, search for suspects continues, Volusia County sheriff says

Incident happened on the 600 block of W. Ida Avenue

DELAND, Fla. – Deputies are investigating a deadly shooting in the Spring Hill area of DeLand, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the shooting happened on the 600 block of W. Ida Ave., about a half-mile west of U.S. Route 17 and a mile south of State Road 44, killing one man.

Sheriff MIke Chitwood said several people, possibly with T-shirts over their heads, approached the victim as he was sitting inside the vehicle and opened fire. The victim got out of his vehicle and ran, but the shooters chased him and shot the man multiple times, according to the sheriff.

The victim died at the scene. The sheriff’s office identified the victim as 27-year-old Clifton Hafner.

No other information about what led up to the shooting has been released. So far, no arrests have been made.
