VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 43-year-old woman died when she her vehicle was struck by a train on Saturday, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Rebecca Bird of Pierson and her dog died after she drove her Chrysler minivan under the railroad crossing arm, which was down and flashing red, and collided with the front of the train.

The crash happened shortly before 7:40 a.m. at the Washington Avenue railroad crossing in Pierson, deputies said.

The train had passengers onboard, but the exact number is unknown, according to the FHP.
