DELAND, Fla. – The DeLand Police Department identified a man in connection with a fatal shooting of a woman who was found dead in a vehicle parked at Walgreens.

Police said Robert Fleming, 36, is wanted on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Latosia Mitchell Warren, 36. The department said the two were from Ohio and have been in Central Florida for several months. Police said Fleming and Warren were romantically involved.

DeLand police Deputy Chief Adam Kisthardt said Warren’s body was found in the car at the drugstore, located at the corner of East New York and South Amelia avenues, on Tuesday after someone called 911 to report a vehicle they were “concerned about.” He said police believe the car, which does not belong to the woman, had been there since Sunday.

Kisthardt said the shooting is not believed to be random and called it “an act of senseless violence.”

When asked whether the woman was killed in the parking lot or if her body was brought to the vehicle after she was fatally shot, Kisthardt said police are still working to learn what led to her death.

“We are trying to determine the circumstances of her death. And I can’t discuss that right now. And I can’t be sure one way or another at this moment,” he said.

Kisthardt said it took a few days for her body to be discovered because of where the vehicle was parked and the way she was “seated in the vehicle.” He said the vehicle was parked off to the side “in a little bit more of an inconspicuous area.”

“She was not very conspicuous from the outside of the vehicle. So it seemed like nothing was out of the ordinary to a passerby who might have been in the parking lot. And there was really, to the casual observer, nothing very conspicuous about the vehicle being parked there and her seated in it the way she was seated,” he said.

He said there was evidence a gun was fired close to or inside the vehicle.

Kisthardt said the department is following up on multiple leads in the shooting investigation.

Anyone with information in the investigation is asked to call 911. Police said anyone who sees Fleming is asked not to approach him and to call police immediately.
