Here are the Central Florida schools, universities that are closed due to Nicole

Nicole expected to make landfall as hurricane

As Tropical Storm Nicole gets closer to Central Florida, school districts across the area are announcing how they will handle the storm.

Here’s a county-by-county list about if and when Central Florida districts plan to close for the storm. We will update the story as we receive more information.

Alachua County:

University of Florida announced Tuesday that classes would be canceled and the Gainesville campus closed on Thursday, Nov. 10.

Brevard County:

Brevard Public Schools is closing on Wednesday, Nov. 9, through Thursday, Nov. 10.

The district said all school activities, events and programs for the two days will be canceled.

The district was already closed on Friday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day.

Flagler County:

Flagler County Schools is having an early release day on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Elementary school students will be released at 2 p.m., middle school students will be released at 12 p.m. and high school students will be released at 1 p.m.

The district is closing on Thursday, Nov. 10, and it is already closed for Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

‘No decision on make-up days will be made until later this month. However, we do not anticipate using the scheduled hurricane make-up days listed for Thanksgiving week,” the district said in a release.

Lake County:

Lake County schools will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 10.

After-school activities are canceled for Wednesday, Nov. 9, except for ELC.

Schools are also closed Friday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day.

Marion County:

Marion County Public Schools is closing on Thursday, Nov. 10.

The district said it plans to reopen on Friday, Nov. 11, depending on weather.

Orange County:

Orange County Public Schools will hold a regular dismissal on Wednesday, Nov. 9; however, all after-school extracurricular activities and extended day programs are canceled from Wednesday through Friday.

All schools will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 10 and Friday, Nov. 11.

Osceola County:

The School District of Osceola County announced Tuesday that schools will be releasing one hour early on Wednesday, Nov. 9., and all after-school activities will end by 3 p.m.

Schools there will be closed Thursday, Nov. 10, and Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

Employees are told not to return to work unless directed by their supervisor.

Seminole County:

Seminole County schools will be closed starting Wednesday, Nov. 9, through Friday, Nov. 11.

The district said after-school activities are also canceled for those days.

Volusia County:

All Volusia Public Schools and administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 9, and Thursday, Nov. 10. Friday, All schools and district offices are also closed on Friday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day.

There will be no school-sponsored activities during the two days schools and administrative offices are closed. No Volusia School District employee should report to work on Wednesday or Thursday unless directed by their supervisor.

Shelters will be open by 10 a.m. Wednesday at the following school locations: Hinson Middle School and Heritage Middle School for the special needs. Creekside Middle School and University High School for the general population. All shelters are pet-friendly.

The two days of instruction missed due to the storm will be made up during the second semester of the school year.

Universities:

  • University of Central Florida - Campus will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 9, and Thursday, Nov. 10.
  • Full Sail University - All in-person classes will remain as scheduled through 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9. Full Sail will transition to remote classes at 9 a.m. Wednesday through 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11. The school plans to reopen the campus at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, pending the after effects of the storm.
  • Rasmussen University’s North Orlando Campus – Rasmussen University announced today its North Orlando campus, which is currently holding classes at a temporary location, will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Nov. 10. All classes will move to a virtual experience over the next two days. Classes are expected to resume in person on Monday, Nov. 14 following the already scheduled closure on Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day.
  • Rasmussen University’s Ocala Campus – Will be closed Thursday, Nov. 10, with all classes moving to a virtual experience.
  • Barry University Melbourne Closed on Wednesday, Nov.9 and Thursday, Nov. 10
  • Barry University Orlando Law - Closed on Wednesday, Nov.9 and Thursday, Nov. 10.
  • Lake-Sumter College - Campuses are now closing at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 and WILL remain closed Thursday, Nov. 10. The college was already scheduled to be closed on Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. LSSC will reopen on Monday, Nov. 14. There will be no access to any facilities on LSSC campuses and all classes and activities are canceled.
  • Valencia College - All campuses will close Wednesday Nov. 9, starting at 2:30 p.m. and remain closed though Thursday, Nov. 10. The college was already scheduled to cancel classes on Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day, but all college offices will be open.
  • Florida A&M University - The following FAMU campuses and/or properties will be closed at varying times, with all expected to resume normal operations by Monday, Nov. 14:
    • Orlando College of Law – Campus closed Wednesday and Thursday
    • Orlando College of Pharmacy – Center closed Thursday
    • Miami/Davie College of Pharmacy – Center closed Wednesday and Thursday
    • Jacksonville – College of Pharmacy – Center closed Thursday
    • Tallahassee – Campus closed Thursday, essential employees only
    • Tampa – College of Pharmacy – Center closed Thursday
    • Quincy and Viticulture Center – Closed Thursday, essential employees only
    • Crestview – Closed Thursday
    • Brooksville – Station closed at noon Wednesday and on Thursday, essential employees only
    • Business Center and Rattler Card Office – Closed Thursday and Friday
    • Campus Bookstore – Closed Thursday
    • Residence halls, the Residence Dining Hall (Top Café') and The Hub will remain open Thursday. On Friday, the Top Café' will be open while the The Hub and all retail locations are closed.
