FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Flagler County deputies released a new image Friday of a murder victim from a 1993 cold case who may have connections to South Carolina.

According to the sheriff’s office, two young boys had discovered the victim’s remains in January 1993 when going to retrieve a basketball after it rolled into the woods. The skeletal remains were found along Sea Ship Place in Palm Coast.

Thirty years after the victim’s remains were found, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office released a new image based on a reconstruction of the victim’s skull. Flagler County’s Cold Case Unit had delivered the skull of the victim to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for forensic artists to create the rendered image.

From the image, brand-new information has been released regarding the woman’s profile, such as her race and facial reconstruction. An original profile released in 1993 believed the victim was a white woman between the ages of 25 to 35 and was deceased approximately 2 to 3 years before being found. Forensic officials also said she was around 5 feet, 3 inches tall and had an old right nasal fracture.

New technological advancements from July 2021 actually show she was an African American, possibly of mixed race.

The woman was also confirmed to be linked to two descendants, George Washington Coleman and Clarissa Minnick, from the Edgefield or Aiken area in South Carolina.

“We hope that someone may be able to identify this woman so we can bring closure to her family who has been waiting for over 30 years to know what happened to her,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in a news release. “We know someone out there knows something, so call us.”

The Flagler County Cold Case Unit has contacted at least 30 possible relatives, hoping to create an extended family tree. Despite extensive searches through DNA testing, the woman’s identity remains unknown.
