“Spring break for Central Florida schools is quickly approaching, and as a result, we’ve had to make some changes,” Feldman said. “In an effort to continue to cultivate the beachside, friendly, welcoming and safe town that we’re known for, you’re going to see an increased law enforcement presence this year.”

Feldman added that police from across Volusia County would be coming to New Smyrna Beach to help in the initiative, and many officers are expected to be present along Flagler Avenue and throughout the beachside area.

According to Feldman, the move is aimed at deterring “unwanted behavior,” such as underage drinking, underage vaping, disorderly conduct, vandalism and traffic violations.

“Please, if you or somebody you know is planning on coming to New Smyrna Beach for spring break, you’re welcome,” Feldman said. “But please respect our laws, and help us maintain this beautiful beachside town.”

Spring break for Volusia County Public Schools begins on Monday, March 13 and runs through Friday, March 17.
