VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia County has enacted a ban on certain types of cars on its beaches to help improve safety, according to the county on Monday.
County leaders said during a meeting on Aug. 15, Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood requested “front-elevated vehicles” be banned from the beaches — a move that was unanimously approved by the county council.

“Front-elevated vehicles” refer to cars that “exhibit suspension, frame or chassis adjustments resulting in a front fender height alteration exceeding 4 inches compared to the rear fender height,” a release from the county states.

County officials explained the new rule will make sure drivers have an unobstructed view while driving along the beach.
The ban went into effect starting on Monday, Aug. 21.
