BUNNELL, Fla. – The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman they say sold drugs three years ago to a Bunnell woman who later died of a fatal overdose.

Deputies on Sunday arrested Malika Moulton, 39.

The sheriff’s office said the 29-year-old victim was found dead at a home on Booe Street, previously S. Pine Street, in Bunnell on July 25, 2020. A bag located in the home had heroin and fentanyl in it, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. It was later determined the woman had overdosed.

While the Bunnell Police Department initially handled the case, the city asked the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office to take over major case investigations in 2022. The sheriff’s office said the victim’s mother requested a thorough review of the case in the hopes of finding whoever sold the victim the drugs.

The sheriff’s office said it was able to identify Moulton as the possible suspect but did not have enough evidence to file murder charges against her. They were, however, able to charge Moulton with sale of heroin within 1,000 feet of a park.

Moulton was arrested and later released from jail on $35,000 bond.
