Ticket or money? This Central Florida police department is helping those they pull over

Daytona Beach police offer vouchers to help drivers repair car

Police lights generic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Daytona Beach Police Department is helping drivers repair their cars this holiday season.

Instead of issuing traffic tickets for missing lights, Daytona Beach police officers will give out vouchers for up to $250. Drivers will then have 14 days to make the repairs.

The “Lights On!” program gives people money to help fix broken turn signals or lights.

“For some, a broken taillight or turn signal can mean choosing between auto repairs and necessities like buying groceries or paying a bill. It can also spark a downward economic spiral that could lead to multiple tickets, confrontations with law enforcement, and even vehicle impoundment,” the department said in a news release.

The vouchers are only available during a traffic stop and are redeemable for burned-out headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals.
