ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A fire overnight Thursday in Orange County damaged two mobile homes, according to firefighters, in a deteriorating mobile home park News 6 has told you about before.
Crews responded to Downey Cove Drive, located in the now-abandoned Lake Downey Mobile Home Park off Dean Road south of State Road 50, in the 32825 ZIP code.
No injuries have been reported and no other details have been shared.
News 6 was last at the mobile home park in February, reporting on its deteriorated condition and on how the county is reviewing plans to build hundreds of multi-family apartment units there. The timeline for that project, however, is unclear.
The county had hit the owner of the park with more than $3 million in fines.
Neighbors have long complained that the park is an eyesore and also a danger. Even though it’s supposed to be abandoned, Pastor Matthew Finley with Faith United Methodist Church says people are living there.
“As a neighbor, this neighborhood needs that trailer park to be demolished,” said Finley, whose church is across the street. “These trailers are not safe. They’re supposed to be unoccupied. But it just is a hazard for everyone.”
