PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A 19-year-old Port Orange man was arrested last week on several charges in connection to a December street-racing crash that killed a 32-year-old woman.

According to police, on the morning of Dec. 23, Lafferty was racing Kayla Lawrence, 32, of Port Orange, when her vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole near Dunlawton Avenue and Spruce Creek Road at a high rate of speed.
Lawrence was pronounced dead following the crash, police said.
The police department said a lengthy investigation that included obtaining vehicle telemetry, on-scene evidence and measurements, witness statements and digital forensic data led to the arrest of Lafferty on March 19.
Lafferty was arrested and held without bond, but bond was later granted and he was released after posting a $51,000 bail, police said.
Anyone with additional information about the case is asked to call the Port Orange Police Department at 386-506-5800 or 386-248-1777.
