OCALA, Fla. – A house fire late Thursday in Ocala left a person dead, according to Ocala Fire Rescue.

Crews responded around 11:20 p.m. to the 2600 block of NE 1st Avenue, arriving to find a one-story residence engulfed in flames, the fire department said in a statement.

A concerned neighbor had called to report visible flames at the home, with fire soon seen burning through the structure’s roof, the statement reads.

As firefighters began an exterior attack, efforts to make an interior attack were halted as fire conditions deteriorated, the department said. The fire had affected a powerline that fell, cutting off access to the water supply and forcing firefighters to withdraw, the statement reads.

The victim was found inside the residence after the fire was brought under control via an aggressive exterior attack, according to the statement.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating what caused the fire.

Ocala Fire Rescue’s Prevention Division, the Ocala Police Department and Marion County Fire Rescue also responded.
