NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – New Smyrna Beach officers pulled a dog from a hot U-Haul truck after the pup’s owners left it in the vehicle so they could go to the beach, according to the police department.
Police released body-camera video on Monday of the rescue from the weekend.
Investigators said someone reported that the animal had been left in the car for more than an hour. The window of the truck was left cracked, but there was no water for the dog, the news release on the department’s Facebook page read.
Officers said the temperature outside was at least 86 degrees and likely well over 100 inside the cab of the truck. The dog was safely removed and taken to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society.
Investigators said charges were recommended to the state attorney’s office for both of the owners but did not say what those charges might be. Police did not release the names of the owners.
