‘Good Samaritan’ helps rescue fisherman after boat capsizes in Mosquito Lagoon, officials say

No injuries reported, rescue officials said

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A boater is safe after they were rescued from the waters of the Mosquito Lagoon on Saturday, according to the Volusia County Professional Firefighters Association.

Rescue officials said a “capsized fisherman” was reported missing after their boat capsized.

According to a news release, a boat captain took rescue crews on the lagoon to assist, and shortly after, marine units arrived and joined the search efforts.

Officials said that a good Samaritan on a jet ski later noticed a person in distress more than a mile and a half from channel marker 14 and while investigating, found the missing boater.

According to the release, the boater was helped on to the jet ski where rescue officials were able to retrieve and assist the victim.

The boater was not injured, rescue crews said.

“Thank you to the boater and the jet skier for going above and beyond to help someone in need,” the release read in part.
