Several counties across Central Florida are in need of bus drivers for the upcoming 2024-25 school year.
Here is a county-by-county breakdown of the transportation employment needs for the different districts.
Seminole County
A spokesperson for Seminole County Public Schools said on Thursday that the county is in need of 44 bus drivers.
Seminole County is hosting a transportation job fair on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2310 E. FL-46 in Sanford. The starting pay is $20.03 an hour and the district will cover the cost of the new employees’ CDL training.
Marion County
Marion County Public Schools is projecting they will need 250 school bus drivers and currently only have 237 secured for the start of the school year. They have 13 temporary drivers but are still in need of additional regular and substitute drivers.
Sumter County
Sumter County school district needs a total of 70 drivers, with 49 currently secured. The exact number of routes has not yet determined since student registration is still taking place.
Orange County
Orange County school district is looking to hire 100 drivers to replace those who have retired.
Volusia County
As of Tuesday, Volusia County Public Schools reported a need of 13 additional bus drivers.
Brevard County
In Brevard County, bus driver employment in the school district is dependent on route schedules. The district currently reporting having no unstaffed routes and a total of 283 drivers.
Osceola County
Osceola County school district has 260 bus routes planned, and officials anticipate all routes will be covered.
Lake County
As of last week, Lake County was looking to hire 20 school bus drivers.
