Drive-by shooting leaves 1 hurt in DeLand, police say

DeLAND, Fla. – A drive-by shooting Friday evening in DeLand left one person hurt, police said, adding an arrest has not yet been made.

Officers responded around 4:57 p.m. to the 800 block of Valleydale Avenue, where several shots had been fired toward a home from a passing vehicle, the DeLand Police Department said in a statement.

The victim was shot in the leg and was hospitalized for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, the statement reads.

Police said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident with no danger to the public. The statement described the suspect vehicle as a maroon sedan and promised more details would be released as they become available.
