DELTONA, Fla. – Detectives are investigating after multiple cat deaths were reported over the weekend in a Deltona neighborhood, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
In a news release, deputies said the deaths were discovered in the area of Mentmore Circle and Montana Street. The timeframe was around 9 p.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.
VSO detectives said they’re working with Deltona Animal Control to figure out what happened.
Meanwhile, News 6 reporter Treasure Roberts responded to the neighborhood on Thursday for more information about what exactly went down.

One neighbor, Jennifer McKean, told Roberts that some of the cats looked as though they were “bludgeoned.”
“The third cat was like slit, a straight slit down. Not an animal.” McKean said. “And its organs were sort of removed from its body but left right there on the side of it.”
McKean speculated that it seemed like a “message” to people in the area, telling them not to feed the cats.
“It looked like they were strategically placed by homes where the cats were fed,” she added. “They were all black cats.”
Anyone with information on the deaths of the cats is urged to contact detectives at 386-860-7030 or mbartzer@volusiasheriff.gov.
