Former Florida high school nurse accused of traveling to meet minor faces more charges

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A former nurse at New Smyrna Beach High School has new charges following an initial arrest late last year, accused of meeting with a teen student, according to police.

Joshua Leggett, 50, was re-arrested on Wednesday to face charges of indecent, lewd or lascivious touching of certain minors by an authority figure and offense against a student by an authority figure, the New Smyrna Beach Police Department said on social media.

When Leggett was first arrested in December 2024, he faced charges of traveling to meet a minor and offense against students by authority figures. He was allegedly seen in Ormond Beach meeting with a juvenile student after she got off work, the post states, adding Ormond Beach police were notified and found the two together in Leggett’s vehicle.

After Leggett’s first arrest, New Smyrna Beach detectives said they collaborated with Ormond Beach police to further investigate his relationship with the student, according to the post.

He was arrested for the second time at his home in Daytona Beach via a warrant obtained by New Smyrna Beach police and is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $100,000 bond, the post states.
