NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A 15-year-old boy was arrested when police found him with a gun after a fight broke out in a beach parking lot, according to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department.
Officers said the fight happened among several juveniles, and witnesses spotted the teen showing the firearm in his waistband, according to an arrest affidavit. He did not point the gun at anyone, the affidavit said.

Police found the firearm, a handgun with a fully loaded magazine, and marijuana in his backpack, the arrest affidavit stated.

The teen faces multiple charges, including unlawfully carrying a firearm under the age of 21, possessing marijuana over 20 grams and violation of probation.
Officers were patrolling the area due to a large influx of teenagers on President’s Day.
Similar incidents happened last spring break after a 16-year-old faced charges as an adult for pulling out a gun in a spring break crowd and an 18-year-old was found with a pistol.
As spring break approaches, the police department warns parents and juveniles that any incident with violence and weapons will not be tolerated and those engaging in criminal activity will face serious consequences.
