VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A former Volusia County deputy arrested in 2024 on allegations he held a woman against her will inside a marked patrol car and demanded a sex act from her has been sentenced to almost six months in prison, court records show.
Stephen Corbin, 41, faced charges of unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior, bribery of or by a public servant and two counts each of false imprisonment, solicitation to commit prostitution and battery, according to the Volusia County Clerk of Circuit Court. All but the charge of unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior were since dropped, the records indicate.
Corbin pleaded no contest to the charge and was sentenced Thursday to 180 days in prison with two days credit for time served, followed by 10 years of probation.
The alleged incident took place May 13, 2024, in the South Ridgewood corridor of Daytona Beach, according to police. A woman reportedly said that she had been approached by Corbin — who was wearing plain clothes yet driving a marked Volusia County Sheriff’s Office cruiser — and told police that he held her against her will in the vehicle and threatened to arrest her if she didn’t engage in a sexual act, police said.
Corbin was hired as a deputy in 2015 and, following his arrest, tendered his resignation after the process of employment termination began within his agency, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said.
“Like any profession, ours hires from the human race. We don’t have the technology to detect each person’s character flaws, assess their integrity or predict all their future conduct,” Chitwood said in a statement. “We do have a responsibility to act decisively when someone’s character falls short of the public’s expectations. This person will not be a deputy sheriff in our community, and his badge will be melted down so it won’t represent this agency in the future.”
