A group of friends experienced a frightening incident during their recent vacation on the Carnival Glory cruise ship.
Tatianna Chuitian and her friends said they were in their room when a chair and towel caught fire on their balcony.
“I just see her eyes get big and she’s like, ‘Oh my God, fire,’ Chuitian said. “And I just immediately look in the direction of where she was looking and all of a sudden I just see our balcony chair slowly becoming in flames.”
The girls said that crew members responded to the fire. They said they were all taken to the infirmary where they were questioned about what happened.

“They just kept telling me, like, you need to calm down,” Chuitian said. “‘You’re making this worse for yourself. Like calm down and tell us what happened. And then, you know, like if you ladies start lying to us like we’re getting the FBI involved, we’re getting Coast Guard' like they’re just bullying us.”
Carnival has not yet confirmed the cause of the fire, but Tatianna and her friends said were cleared of any blame by the ship’s crew.
However, the fire was not the only issue that marred their trip.
“They have not made this easy at all, and that’s why now we’re really upset because our things are ruined,” Chuitian said. “And all the money that we spent on this cruise also went to waste because we just had to deal with a traumatic event.”
News 6 reached out to Carnival to ask about safety protocols, the cause of the fire, Carnival’s policies, and what the crew is supposed to do in a situation like this.
In a statement Carnival said: “We have a very robust fire management system, including alarms, detectors, sprinklers and training. This matter was quickly handled and there were no injuries.”
However, the cruise line did not answer any of our other questions.
When asked what they wished Carnival had done differently, Tatianna replied, “Treated us like humans. It’s like we were just some irresponsible young girls that just had too much fun and started a fire because that’s not what any of us are, you know?”
