NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A road in New Smyrna Beach was partially blocked Wednesday night after officers located “what appeared to be a homemade explosive device,” according to police.

The device was found during a traffic stop, forcing the temporary closure of the eastbound lanes of State Road 44 between Old Mission Road and Myrtle Avenue, the New Smyrna Beach Police Department said on social media.

The situation was resolved after the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad safely removed the object for further analysis, the post states, adding no one was injured.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. Additional charges may be pending, according to the post.
