FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – New video released by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office shows the arrest of a man accused in a shooting who led deputies on a chase on Interstate 95 before crashing into trees along the interstate.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said it was notified on Friday by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office that a man suspected in a Lake County shooting was driving through their jurisdiction and entering Flagler County.
Deputies located the suspect, 36-year-old Levon Coakley, on US-1 and tried to pull him over, but he sped off, according to the sheriff’s office. Sheriff’s officials said Coakley’s driving “caused a multi-vehicle crash” before he got onto I-95, driving in the wrong direction of traffic.
Deputies said they then used stop sticks on his vehicle, which caused it to overturn, crash into trees and catch on fire.
The sheriff’s office said Coakley then ran into the woods, and multiple units searched for him for nearly an hour before finding him north of the crashed vehicle.
The body camera video released Wednesday shows Coakley on the ground as deputies yell instructions.
“Slowly start crawling toward me,” one deputy said.
“If you reach toward anything, we will take it as a hostile movement, do you understand?” another deputy is heard yelling.
Coakley is then seen on video crawling toward the front of a deputy’s cruiser before deputies place handcuffs on him.
He was arrested and faces multiple charges, including reckless driving.
Coakley is being held on no bond.
