Detectives with the sheriff’s office’s Overdose Task Force allegedly found messages with Smith on the victim’s phone that indicated that he sold her fentanyl and was offering to sell more, the post states.
Detectives reportedly got Smith to agree to meet at a convenience store in Ormond Beach, according to the post, adding that he was arrested at a different gas station, which he reached on foot after running away from the first, according to the post.
Law enforcement recovered a small baggie of fentanyl and a cellphone that Smith allegedly threw while running, the post states. Smith’s toddler had also been left in the back seat of his car with no child-safety seat or restraints, the sheriff’s office said.
Smith faces charges of driving while license canceled, suspended or revoked, possession of fentanyl with intent to sell, neglect of a child, use of a two-way communication device to commit a felony and obstructing an officer without violence, records show. He’s being held without bond.
