According to FHP, a Dodge Durango traveling in the outside lane failed to slow down and struck the back of a Chevrolet Silverado, causing the Silverado to go off the roadway and into bushes and a tree.
Troopers said the Durango was stopped in the outside lane after the rear-end crash. The semitruck tried to swerve to avoid hitting the vehicle but struck the back left of it and overturned, according to a crash report.
The semitruck was carrying sand, which spilled across the northbound lanes. The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the other two drivers did not need medical attention, the FHP said.
The interstate was closed in the area but reopened around 8:40 a.m.
An investigation is ongoing.
