VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A motorcyclist died in a crash Friday evening at an intersection near Daytona Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of LPGA Boulevard and Derbyshire Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, a 34-year-old Ormond Beach man was riding a motorcycle eastbound on LPGA Boulevard as a 54-year-old Ormond Beach man was driving an SUV westbound on the same road, both drivers approaching the intersection. The man driving the SUV attempted to make a left turn to Derbyshire Road, entering the direct path of the motorcyclist, the report states.
The front of the motorcycle struck the front of the SUV as a result, troopers said. The motorcyclist was thrown off of the bike and into a business parking lot, where he was pronounced dead, according to FHP. The man driving the SUV was hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries, the report states.
The SUV driver was wearing a seat belt and the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet during the crash, troopers said, adding witnesses reportedly advised that the motorcycle was traveling above the posted speed limit.
FHP is still investigating.
