DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A special event zone in Daytona Beach will go into effect Friday evening due to the possibility of an unpermitted truck event over the weekend, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The zone stretches from around Plaza Boulevard to the area of Frank Rendon Park, about 6.43 miles in length.

Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, fines for traffic infractions within the zone will be doubled and vehicles found in violation will be subject to impoundment, according to the sheriff’s office. The zone will remain in effect “for as long as reasonably necessary,” set to lift “if/after the unpermitted pop-up event dissipates,” the sheriff’s office said.

Florida lawmakers in 2022 passed a law allowing the establishment of such zones with the aim of deterring unpermitted events that could disrupt traffic.
