Roundabout construction begins at busy DeLand intersection

Project to be completed by fall 2025

DELAND, Fla. – Florida transportation crews have begun work on a roundabout to help improve traffic at a busy DeLand intersection.

The two-lane roundabout is at the intersection of State Road 44 (New York Avenue) and Kepler Road.

The Florida Department of Transportation said roundabouts reduce the likelihood of crashes compared to traditional traffic signals, and the roundabout will also have features to improve pedestrian safety in the area.

Travelers in the area should expect periodic nighttime lane closures and traffic pattern shifts while construction is going on, but the intersection will remain open.

The $8.5-million project is expected to be completed by fall 2025.

There will be a public meeting about the project on Tuesday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wayne G. Sanborn Activity Center on Alabama Avenue. More information is available on the project’s website.
