VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man was ejected from a sedan and killed in a crash late Saturday on Interstate 4 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 11:17 p.m. on eastbound I-4 near mile marker 106, in the DeBary area, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, a 28-year-old Deltona man was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima above the posted speed limit and failed to observe two vehicles ahead of him in the outside lane. The front of the Altima then struck the rear of a 2016 Kia Optima, which then collided with the rear of a 2020 Nissan Rogue, the report states.

The Altima ran off the roadway to the right and onto the outside shoulder where it struck a tree, according to FHP. The Deltona man was ejected from the sedan and pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said, adding he was not wearing a seat belt during the crash.

Both of the other drivers were not injured in the crash and remained at the scene, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.
