VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 19-year-old DeLand woman was killed early Sunday when a pickup truck struck her SUV on U.S. 17 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 2:17 a.m. as the woman traveled northbound on U.S. 17, north of Lake Winona Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the pickup truck — being driven southbound on U.S. 17 by a 22-year-old DeLand man — entered the northbound lane when its driver failed to maintain his own. The front of the truck struck the front of the SUV, sending the woman’s vehicle off of the roadway where it overturned and caught fire, the report states.

The man was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition while the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.
