Orange City police said a preliminary investigation shows that a 2010 Mercedes SUV was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Parkway and struck a 2018 Kia van head-on.

Police identified the driver of the Mercedes SUV as Jairam Singh, 44, of Deltona, and the passenger was identified as Samantha Marshall, 45, of Deltona.

Singh was taken to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Marshall was taken to Advent Health Fish Memorial Hospital in Orange City, where she was pronounced dead a short time later, according to police.

The driver of the Kia van, a 38-year-old Deltona woman, and a passenger, a 74-year-old Deltona man, both sustained serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals in stable condition.

It’s not known why the Mercedes was going the wrong way, and an investigation is ongoing.
