1 killed, 1 injured in crash on North Causeway bridge in New Smyrna Beach, police say

Expect delays in downtown/Canal Street area, police say

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A crash that killed a pedestrian an injured another forced both directions of travel to to be shut down for hours on the North Causeway bridge in New Smyrna Beach on Saturday, according to police.

New Smyrna Beach police said that a woman and her husband were walking on the sidewalk on the bridge when they were struck by a westbound vehicle.

According to a news release, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her husband was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Drivers were asked to use the South Causeway and were advised to expect delays in the downtown/Canal Street area, the New Smyrna Beach Police Department said at 1:36 p.m. on social media. At 6:10 p.m., police said both directions of traffic on the bridge have reopened.

Police said that traffic homicide investigators are at the scene and conducting the investigation.
